Yarn Wreath

So, I made a yarn wreath for Fall!  I've been dying to decorate for Christmas, and Ryan insists it's too early, so my compromise was Fall decorating (which I never do).  I have seen similar wreaths all over Pinterest, so I decided to whip one up last week.  It cost less than $10, and took a few hours from start to finish.
These are the materials I used...a 14 inch wreath form, sheets of felt in Ruby, Orange, Cocoa, Gold, and Brown, as well as Ecru colored yearn, a hot glue gun, pins, and scissors.  I taped the form together at the seam, and then tied the yarn around the tape, and started wrapping.

I'm super OCD, so it took me way longer to wrap than it should have, but I didn't want any lumps or bumps or anything, so I made sure everything was tight and close before moving on.  This was definitely the most time consuming step of the process!
FINALLY, I was finished wrapping, and it was time to make all of the flowers.  Here is where I really failed.  I didn't take any pictures of my process, thus explaining it will make zero sense.  I will, however, link to some felt flower tutorials that I found particularly helpful.  First, I'm kind of weirdly obsessed with this girl, and she even posted a new felt flower tutorial today!  I made a few flowers like this one, so that helps with linking them LOL.  These are some of my favorites, as well as these pretty little flowers.  I think that this was the last tutorial I used, and here are pictures of my final product:

I must say that I'm pretty proud of it.  I really love how it looks hanging under my zinc H from Anthropologie, and it really "Falls" up the whole place.  Well, this and the ombre glitter pumpkin that my dining room table is rocking...and all the mini pumpkins and gourds everywhere.  I may have gone a little decorating crazy, but oh well!

Daily Nail(polish)

I'm so fail.  I am way behind with getting this posted, but this fabulous polish is Jermyn Street by Nails Inc.  The color is a creme taupe-y greige, and the formula is perfect.  Nails Inc. has quickly become my favorite nail polish brand (and I'm obsessed with the Kensington Caviar 45 second top coat).

Sailor as Hedwig for Halloween

So, this year, I decided to make a Halloween costume for my four month old daughter Sailor.  I got lots of inspiration from Pinterest, and finally chose to have her be Hedwig from Harry Potter!

A friend of mine made the hat for me, and I used an old long sleeved white onesie as the base of the costume.  Not going to lie, I didn't sew ANY of this.  I hot glue-gunned everything, and used felt so that I wouldn't have to finish any of my edges.  It still looks so cute, though!  Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures as I was making it, so I don't have a full tutorial, but I do have some detail pictures and links for my inspiration.

I chose to make individual feathers on the front, and one large tail section on the back.  I cut the feathers out of white and grey felt in a soft, rounded edge triangle shape.  The most important thing to me was to not worry about all of the pieces matching each other perfectly.  I wanted some smaller and some bigger, so that they would look more realistic.  I laid out the feathers in rows to decide the placement of the grey pieces, and then I hot glued the feathers together in their rows, and glued them onto the onesie.

For the wings, I went here, and followed her link to the Martha Stewart site (which seems to have removed the template) and eye-balled everything.  I used the basic shape shown, and made templates for myself with extra felt, that way I could draw on the felt with sharpie, make them bigger or smaller, and then cut the actual wings out after I had decided on the shape and size.  I really love how it came out, and think that she looks adorable!

Daily Nail(polish)

I've had Essie's Going Incognito on my fingernails for the last few days, and it's safe to say I'm in love.  It's a creme polish, and the color is a deep emerald green that I can see myself wearing all through the winter months.
